Cyprus Announced the European Union (EU) Blue Card

Official launch in Cyprus, effective July 7th, 2025

Following recent amendments to the “Aliens and Immigration” Law, the Cypriot Migration Department has confirmed that the Blue Card scheme was officially came into effect on Monday, July 7th, 2025. This initiative aims to attract highly qualified non-EU nationals and strengthen the Cypriot economy.


Key Features of the Blue Card:

  • Target Group: Designed for highly skilled non-EU nationals, whether currently residing legally in Cyprus or planning to relocate.

  • Eligible Sectors: Employment opportunities are available in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Pharmaceuticals, and Shipping.

  • Minimum Salary Threshold: Set at €43,632 gross per year.

  • Validity Period: The Blue Card is issued for up to 3 years, with the possibility of renewal.


Main Benefits:

  • EU Mobility: Freedom to live and work across all EU Member States (excluding Denmark and Ireland) and EEA countries.

  • Support During Transitions: Eligibility for temporary unemployment benefits while maintaining legal residence.

  • Family Reunification: Immediate and enhanced rights for family members.

  • Pathway to Long-Term Residency: A simplified process to obtain long-term residence, even after relocating within the EU.
